Dear Mr. President

Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me.
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.

What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?

Dear Mr. President,
Were you a lonely boy?
(Were you a lonely boy?)
Are you a lonely boy?
(Are you a lonely boy?)
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We're not dumb and we're not blind.
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell.

What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye?

Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh

How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President,
You'd never take a walk with me.
Would you?

  1. The lyrics are very universal. It could be a song about any country's president. It's sad there is so much inequality in the world.

    1. Hi Nana, it's amazing how accurate these lyrics still are right now!

Groetjes :-)

  3. when pink debuted in 2000 as a teen singer with her hair tinted in pink (hence her artistic name), no one thought she would develop such a long career. she used to be very rebel and controversial, but now se has become more mature. as for this song, they lyrics are very relevant today, indeed. that live performance with only an acoustic guitar is fantastic.
    hugs!

    1. Hello Chema, absolutely! Her voice is incredible in this live performance, and the lyrics are so emotional and to the point. With the developments going on in the world right now it is again very relevant indeed, unfortunately. Hugs back :-)

  5. I love her voice and the way she's singing this song.
So sad it's so true. No matter what country or what time we are talking about.

    1. Hi Kamelia, me too. The world doesn't change unfortunately. I think this is a brilliant song, and very accurate today.

  6. Life is a lot more complicated than a pop song though. :(

    1. Hi Barb, of course it is, a song won't change that. I just think that what this song is about is still accurate now, with innocent little children still suffering due to political decisions and useless killings.

  7. This song really suits almost any leader, in any given country. It is so easy for a politician, president och as here, the King (we have a monarchy) to make decisions and change the law, because it suits their agenda. Mostly it is the smaller (us ordinary living ones) that get affected by the changes. And we do not have so much to say and if we vote, there may be sudden changes that we did not put our voices into. For many years ago, I was politically active, so I have seen it from the both sides. It really can be awful.

    1. Hello Niina, I can imagine that it can be awful in the political world. Some important leaders had or have their heart in the right place while others seem to have no heart at all though.
Our King doesn't have much influence on political decisions, it's all the government that makes them. All we can do is vote and hope that the chosen politicians mean sort of well with their country :-).
Nowadays we know much better what really goes on in the world leaders' and local politician's minds due to Twitter and social media, and what they dare to write sometimes really concerns me.

  8. This is a very thought provoking song. Thank you for sharing this with us. It does make you think about our leaders and what they are doing with the country.

    1. Hello Alasse, the way things are going right now is so worrying, it scares me to be honest. We only have one globe to share, and apparently some world leaders want it all for themselves... It never changes.

  9. Hi M&F. I'm just now getting back online which is why you haven't heard from me lately. Everybody everywhere is being stressed out by this president who is, frankly, a spoiled brat. We must all keep our eyes and ears open because bad people come into power through legitimate means. We must exercise our power by not only getting out to vote, but to encourage everyone--particularly the young people around us who can play a major role in shaping the future-- to do so as well!

    1. Hello April, I'm glad you're back, and that you had a great time in Paris :-). We didn't have the time to go see the exhibitions you wrote about, but we are going to Paris probably in December.
Yes, this president and his administration are causing stress worldwide alright! It's indeed up to the people, let's hope they will open their eyes in time.
