Our Generation 50 cm horse & dolls of various sizes comparison

__________

The Battat Our Generation Thoroughbred horse measures 50 cm tall and 50 cm long (20 inch). It is made for 46 cm (18 inch) tall dolls. Since a horse needs a name, I named mine Benicio.

Here is Benicio compared to a variety of doll sizes.

C.E.D. Chiara, 49 cm (19 1/2 inch)

Zwergnase Junior Josef and Dunja, 50 cm (20 inch)

Josef: "Are you a pony?"
Benicio: "No, I'm a horse. You're just tall!"

BFC Ink Kaitlin, 46 cm (18 inch)

Takara Lady Luminous, 43 cm (17 inch)

Hasbro Lorifina, 50 cm (20 inch)

Famosa Nancy, 40 cm (16 inch)

Tonner Tyler, 40 cm (16 inch)

__________

And last but not least: Effanbee Humphrey Bogart (40 cm, 16 inch). He prefers a car for transportation though.

__________

So, who looks the best with Benicio?

  1. Bardzo ciekawe porównania. Zabrakło jeszcze lalki Barbie - przy niej koń by był wielki :). Najbardziej pasuje do niego Chiara i Lorifina.

    1. Hello Eunice, to zaskakujące jak proporcje lalki są ważne w porównaniu z konia :-). Chiara i Lorifina wyglądają ładnie z koniem, zgadzam się :-).

  2. Bardzo mi się ten koń spodobał! Jest naprawdę duży! Wspaniale wygląda na nim Chiara! To cudowna amazonka!
Takara oraz Lorifina też wyglądają dobrze :-)
    Fantastyczne porównanie, dziękuję :-)

  3. I think it's just perfect for Takara and Chiara. They look most natural with Benicio. :) I think this saddle will do too if you change the stirrups - they are ridiculously
big even for western saddle. ;)
    Great comparison.

    1. Hello Kamelia, I agree, I think they are a very good size for Benicio :-). I think 17 inch to 19 inch slender fashion dolls work the best. The saddle is okay and actually very well made, but the stirrups are made for the broad feet of Our Generation dolls, they are huge :-D! I want to make smaller ones, it will look so much more realistic! I can't wait to see your horse :-)!

  4. I agree with Kamelia. Chiara looks the best to me. Very natural. Benicio isn't quite the right build to be a pony. He's gorgeous though!

    1. Hello Sheila, no, Benicio felt a bit offended by Josef's question lol!

  5. I agree that Takara and Chiara are the best fit for this horse. Tyler looks okay if you think of the horse as a draft horse, one of the big breeds of horses that is a work horse. Getting smaller stirrups will probably help with the proportions as well.

    1. Hello Barb, I agree, Tyler makes him look like a draft horse :-). The stirrups can easily be replaced, they are removable without damaging anything. It will be much better if they are smaller!

  6. in my opinion Chiara and Tyler and Takara are best fit for Benicio :) Doll's proportion are so important in this case. Beniocio is a great horse and nice addiotion to your dolly collection :)

    1. Hello Balbinka, it's true, the proportions are even more important than the height of the doll. I'm glad you like Benicio :-).

  7. In my opinion, the horse is beautiful and looks great with all the dolls.

  8. The horse is really nice. It has a great body, however the head is "too young". It's a bit like pony's head. Chiara is the best candidate for riding Benicio. Takara doll looks nice too. I would only repaint the hoofs. Dark colour would be better imo.

    1. Hello Nana, the head is probably made that way to appeal more to young children (but I won't mention this to Benicio lol!). Chiara is the best articulated doll, she can take a more realistic pose than the other dolls. Unfortunately Takara Lady Luminous doesn't have any articulation in her body, so she can't sit on the horse. I don't think I'm brave enough to repaint this horse, I think I would ruin it or something :-D!

  9. The horse is very pretty, I would also repaint hooves. He is best for Chiara and Takara in my opinion.Huges :)

    1. Hello Szara, thank you :-). I will start with replacing the stirrups, that way I can't do something wrong with the actual horse :-). The two dolls are indeed looking good with the horse. I think Chiara would be happy to go on an adventure in open air with Benicio :-). Hugs back!

  13. I think the 16-17 inch dolls look best but alas, don't always have the best articulation!

    1. Hello Wendy, that's true, it would be nicer if they could sit on the horse at least :-). The Takara doll has the best size but is the least articulated unfortunately.

  16. ja, ja, ja, I loved the pictures of the comparison. They are really funny and great to show differences between dolls. I think Benicio can act different roles with every kind of doll, but it fits to all in its way!!
    Have a nice summer!

  17. Hi Linda,
Thanks for doing all the comparisons, I like some better than others but it depends on whether Benicio is portrayed as a pony or full grown horse. I'm pleased you used the Z Jnr dolls as I have one myself and it gave me a really good idea of how the horse was built, he's quite solid. He's much bigger than my BJD horse so I may have to save my pennies for one of my own. :)
    Big hugs,
    X

    1. Hi Sandi, I tried to compare different sizes, to show how it looks :-). For Zwergnase Juniors it is like a pony, not that I really mind personally :-). It is a huge horse and takes up much space, but I'm happy with it :-). Big hugs back!

  18. The comparison were great. I have to admit, I really like how the tonner doll looks with the horse. I wonder if that's because to me, horses are massive animals! I also like the Chiara and Lorifina dolls with the horse too. Which ones were you thinking of pairing with the horse?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hello Alasse, I bought the horse for my 16 inch Tonner dolls, and I think that if photographed from the right angle, it will work. My male Tonner doll is 17 inch, so he should have the ideal size. Unfortunately he doesn't have any clothes yet, the poor guy, only one pair of shoes, so I didn't photograph him with the horse, to save his dignity ;-). I think Chiara, Lorifina and Nancy, and Lady Luminous, look good with the horse as well, so I think he will be popular for photo shoots :-).

  20. Wow...this is so interesting. I'm beginning to see things that make me wish I had space for props!! I love the horse. I love your doll Chiara though I would have to agree with AlasseCarnesir that the proportion of the Tonner doll looks most appropriate with that of the horse. I think if you have a Tonner styled in more casual clothes, it might take our attention away from Chiara (who I think has the better "look" for riding).

    1. Hello April, it does take up a lot of space, I don't have any closet where this horse fits in :-). I will try to give one of the Tonner ladies a more suitable horse riding outfit to see how that looks with the horse. I was looking for riding boots or other more sportive looking boots, but that seems to be impossible to find unfortunately. Or, I can make a riding dress inspired by the 1900s or earlier, and a suit for my male Tonner doll. I'm looking forward to explore the possibilities for outfits and photo shoots :-).
