My new doll Beatrice (Bonnie & Pearl) was dressed in a lovely outfit when she arrived, but I was so impressed by the Bonnie & Pearl outfits that I ordered one. It was a difficult decision, but I chose this cute school uniform.
Beatrice has a cloth body but can stand on her own. She's about 50 cm or 20 inches tall.
Speaking of cloth bodies, I bought a vintage a doll last week that I never had expected to find! For many years I had a Sekiguchi Printemps on my wishlist. These 1970s dolls are very hard to find, and when they are for sale, they are expensive. To my surprise I saw an ad with such a doll for sale. I made an offer and it was accepted! I even could pick her up at the seller's home.
The doll was not in a good shape, even if the seller had described her as in very good condition, but I took her home anyway, because I will never find one again, and certainly not so cheap and so close to home.
She was very soiled, her clothes severely stained, and her hair was a terrible, filthy and dry tangled mess, and when I took a boot off, there was (probably 30 year old) chewing gum all over her foot and in the boot! It was awful! ~Shiver~
My brave husband cleaned the foot and the boot (I didn't want to touch it!) and I did the rest.
I washed the hair with detergent, then soaked it in fabric softener, and then I rubbed in hair conditioner. I managed to untangle it. I couldn't get the stains out of the clothes, but at least they are clean now. The cloth body was stained too. I sprayed "Carolin" on it, rubbed it in and then rinsed with a damp cloth. I used a toothbrush to clean her face, arms and legs. They are still stained here and there as well, but with some acne cream hopefully the stains will go away.
I didn't want to shock you with "before" pictures of the chewing gum foot or clothes, but this is how her face and hair looked like:
|Her left ear has blue stains, probably from felt-tipped pen.|
|Dry, dirty and tangled hair, which now is okay again.|
I still need to iron the clothes. When that's done, I will do a photo shoot of my new treasure :-).
Some less good news is that thieves broke into our house that we recently bought. They apparently came through the garden and broke a window in the back to get in. We're still not living there full time, but a lot of our belongings are there. They didn't take much, but still... This is the 3rd time I had a break-in!
I don't want to end this post in a negative atmosphere, so here is another picture of Beatrice (who luckily is still in our apartment, so she didn't get kidnapped :-) ).
