Daryl 1/6th scale action figure review

I was prepared for a long waiting time, but thanks to the super fast shipping method that both sellers used, Daryl's head and body have already arrived! I haven't had the chance to buy clothes for him yet! Not that I'm complaining :-)
__________

The review is coming up in a minute, but first this. Do you know these kind of memes?

Hmmm... sorry macho collectors, but if you look at it objectively, an action figure is a doll... Like any other doll, it's a small representation of a human, and besides, dictionaries agree on this. I have to smile when I see these memes, because it's such a typical thing that male action figure collectors say when someone uses the insulting d-word haha!
__________

And now Daryl needs to get rid of his towel, so we can take a closer look at the details of my new action figure!

The body is, as mentioned in my previous post, from Coomodel. It is the "1/6 new 2.0 BD001 standard male" body. The skin tone is rather dark, which I think is the mid-tone of the available skin colours. The hands and feet are slightly lighter than the rest of the body. Included are 7 hands and a neck piece, and a replacement joint.

The joints are all very flexible, as you can see in the pictures above. The hands and feet are easily replaceable, I didn't have to use heat to remove them and nothing was damaged. The legs can't be crossed in a sitting pose (one leg over the other), but can be posed in several other positions. The body is very well balanced and can stand on its own.

Daryl's head fits very well on the neck of the body. It is lighter than the body, but once Daryl will be dressed, it won't be a problem.

It's not very clear in this picture, but the heel of the left foot didn't touch the floor here and yet Daryl didn't fall down.

Art class model.

Close-ups of the face show how detailed and realistic the head looks. Not only does it resemble the actor Norman Reedus who plays the character Daryl in The Walking Dead very well, but it also looks exactly the same as in the seller's photos. I'm very impressed by this head!

The extra hands are either fists or molded to hold and fire a gun, so I will try to find relaxed hands somewhere. This hand (only one) was also included:

Maybe this hand is meant to be slammed on a table during a police interrogation, but I like it posed like this as well ;-).

"I'm not a doll. I Am Not A Doll."

A comparison with Barbie and Integrity Toys dolls will follow when Daryl has something to wear :-).

Well, I hope you liked this review, and if you have questions, I will try to answer them!

  1. He poses really well. So I guess taking photos of him is sheer pleasure. But isn't his neck a bit too long? I wonder what he would look like fully dressed.

    1. Hello Nana, well, I thought so too, but when I wrap a piece of fabric around the shoulders it looks normal. The knob on which the head is attached does give the illusion of a very long neck though. I'm waiting for a second body to arrive, when I have that I can compare the two. The other body has an attached neck and will be easier to dress :-).

  2. Hello Millicent,
The face detail is incredible. It looks like an animated movie picture.
And he is totally a doll!

  4. I had similar thoughts as Nana Arima about the neck lenght, but I will wait until you dress him. :)

I'm really impressed how the face looks. It's perfect. The body fits well, I think you will have a lot of fun with dressing him up and taking photos. :)

    1. Hi Kamelia, I checked with other pictures and it seems common with these kind of action figures that the neck looks like this. We'll see what effect clothes have :-). The face is impressive isn't it, so detailed! Yeah, Sheldon is great :-).

  5. You know - boys DON'T play dolls, so they HAVE TO have action figures ;) For me he IS a very pretty doll :) I think that color mismatch between head and body will disappear when you'll dress him :) Thank you for this very detailed reviw :)

  9. Daryl is such a lovable character and he's a gem translated into a doll. This face speaks volumes. I can already imagine him dressed in his film apparel. Fantastic doll, err, I mean - action figure.

    1. Hello stary_zgred, so nice to read you! I'm glad you visit here on my new blog :-) (it's been a year or so, but I was the author of Darkroom Dolls, a lot has changed since then in my collection!).
Yes, Daryl is awesome in the show! His original outfit is exactly the same as in the TV series, with a blanket, a crossbow and everything. The head is so realistic, it surprised me! I have to buy him a cool outfit very soon, the poor thing still wears his towel lol!

    1. Hello April, I'll be writing more posts about action figures in the future, I ordered another head (Tom Hiddleston this time) and the second body has arrived a while ago. A tall body is next on my list to order, I think that will be the best for the plans I have with them.
